Our young guest Maxi Hofer enjoyed an amazing day of fishing on the River Tay recently.
Maxi, who is staying with his family at Kipney Farmhouse, reeled in a 15Ib Salmon!
Logiealmond Estate’s Guest Services team arranged for the family to go fishing with local business Fishponds.
Under the watchful eye of experienced and knowledgeable Fishponds ghillie and angler Simon Furniss, the family had a productive day fishing on the two mile beat upstream from Scone Palace.
Just a 35 minute drive away from the Estate, Fishponds have a comfortable log cabin sitting on stilts above the water. Perfect for entertaining, it is equipped with a log burner, running water, seating, toilets, cooker, storage facilities and a fabulous deck area to enjoy lunch or a dram at the end of the day overlooking the boats and the Fireshot Pool.
There are three seasonal runs of fish - from 15th January, Springers can be expected until May/June. Grilse and summer salmon are expected through to the end of July. Larger fish can be expected throughout autumn to the close of the season on the 15th October.
At 117 miles in length, the Tay is Scotland’s longest river. Its sheer size and volume of water also make it one of the most prolific and accessible salmon fishing rivers in the world. It is home to Scottish record-breaking fish, including the largest ever rod-caught salmon in Britain, making it a perfect destination for fishing enthusiasts.
There are many beautiful stretches of water near Logiealmond Estate, with numerous holding pools. There are excellent facilities for fishing, plus experienced and dedicated local guides. Whether fly-fishing, spinning, or harling – a traditional, exceptionally effective Tay fishing technique – fishing on the River Tay can quite simply be the experience of a lifetime.
